Basics as a police
General tip: take it slow.
Patrol
There's no crimes reported, you're patrolling the streets to make sure it stays that way.
Hold down the ALT key to walk slowly. Walk rounds in the town, show yourself to the citizens.
Belive it or not, but a police that are walking slowly around the town can make the difference between bad roleplay and good roleplay.
Walking slowly around the town shows everyone that you're not the random cop running around with a gun up for no reason, in the mind of the players they'll know that the police is reliable, use the /cr etc.
Talk and listen in the radio. Discuss with other officers what you should do, split up in groups to patrol, guard the checkpoint.
Chasing a criminal
Unarmed criminal, assume he's running through the checkpoint.
I have a key bound to yell "Stop right there!".
I use it and chase them. If they don't stop after two yells, I can shoot them in the leg to slow them down.
Tell them to face the wall.
Call for backup, keep him at gunpoint so he can't pull a gun at you.
Once backup arrives, hold him at gunpoint while he's searched.
Illegal weapons, arrest him, or confisquate them and let him walk, this time.
Armed criminal who's shooting at you.
Take cover. Your life is more important than shooting some bullets and possibly dying.
Assume you're alone with this criminal in the slums. He's running away from you while shooting.
Take cover, call for backup.
This way, you can then chase down the criminal and arrest him.
If you shoot back and die, then you lost that criminal forever, unless you break NLR.
Being taken hostage
As a cop, being a hostage is the most roleplay involved role.
Too often, cops just pull up their gun while at gunpoint and shoot.
The hostage taker isn't ready for that, he assumes a player won't break the rules.
At gunpoint, follow the hostage to the location.
If the hostage taker roleplays you like I usually do: /me takes name's radio.
Now you are not allowed to use /g. Roleplay properly.
The hostage taker will make his demands.
Follow his demands.
Too often the police calls for backup while at gunpoint.
This can't happen IRL. If a criminal with a weapon pointing at you hears you yell in your radio "I'm held hostage at", then you'd die.
Raiding
Here we will assume there's a hostage situation.
You and the other cops are there to rescue the mayor.
What you don't do:
Break the door
Try shooting at the hostage taker(s)
Say "kill him, we don't care".
What you should do:
Follow their demands. Don't have your weapons up, showing that you will shoot if you get the chance.
If any citizen is in harm, you should follow their demands fully.
Negotiate, try to change their demands.
Too often, police rushes in and shoots everyone.
This is not something that would happen irl in many cases.
The police negotiates with the hostage takers until both sides are happy.
Some other stuff:
You can't search someone because they refuse to let you in.
You can't search someone because you see sparks through the walls, or you hear the printer sounds.

Re: Basics as a police
Can you please edit that, saying what hostege taker won't be prepared for will most likely be counter productive.Zeroi9 wrote:Too often, cops just pull up their gun while at gunpoint and shoot.

Just say that. "If you are being tanken hostage under gunpoint, don't pull your gun out and shoot."

Re: Basics as a police
Hopefully our mods wouldn't kick the officers without getting their part of the story.Fulcrum wrote:optimistic
